Evaluation Question 3

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

·         The company that distributes a film has a massive impact on how well the film becomes and how successful its grossing rate is. For example, if we were to use a distribution company such as Paramount or 20th Century Fox, the chances of our film becoming widely popular and successful are much higher than if we were to go with an independent company such as Film4 or Vertigo Films. However many crime/ mystery films that have been distributed by independent companies have still becomes huge successes and therefore we could use both. Our assigned project that we have filmed and edited is an opening sequence and in which, we chose the genre of Film Noir. For our distribution company, we wanted one that has already distributed at least one Film Noir movie or has distributed a crime/mystery film. Therefore when choosing one, we wanted one like Paramount Pictures because they distributed the film Sunset Boulevard which was one of the most famous and successful Film Noir movies. Another ultimate distribution company would be Warner Brothers; this is due to the fact that they distributed the Film Noir movie ‘The Big Sleep’, which again was one of the most famous film noir movies. Also, Warner Bros distributed the Sherlock Holmes films which are fairly recent and were huge successes. Using both companies would help as well with the advertising of the film. For example, we could use the three stages of posters to advertise and make our audience aware of our film. We would also use YouTube to release a trailer of the film.
